DALMAHOY
(Balerno Outskirts)

Introduction

This area runs north and south of the A70 from the Currie/Balerno boundary in the East to Dalmahoy Hill and Kaimes Hill in the West, with the exception of the village and immediate surrounding area of Balerno.

From the edge of Balerno westwards the A70 is called the Lang Whang (whang means bootlace in Scots) which is reputed to have been a Roman road. The character of the area is mainly farmland but there has also been quarrying for hundreds of years.
